Family Service-Learning Weekend

First Lutheran Church/Iglesia Luterana Mi Salvador, Inglewood, CA
Last trip was February 2010; next trip TBA

Here are pictures from our August 2009 weekend.

Global Village

Dates To Be Determined
$10/per adult and $5/per child (age 4 to 17) / Visit our Global Village page...

The Raising Micah Global Village Experience is designed for families of all ages... it’s a “hands-on” time of “living,” if only for a brief couple of hours, as you might in another country. The experience includes time in “portable village units.” The structures include a bamboo hut, a plywood home, a tent, and cardboard boxes. Each structure represents a different area, such as Sudan, Peru, Cambodia, and inner-city U.S. homeless. When families (or groups of families) go to their structures, they will receive various amounts of food – some very, very little – to help gain understanding of food resources; they will also have to “hike” for a water to get an understanding of water resources. We hope you are willing to jump into the experience and see through a new lens!

Family Retreats

"Doing Justice, Loving Kindness, & Walking Humbly"

2011 at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp, Amery, Wisconsin.

"Story-Formed"

November 12-14, 2010
(beginning Friday at 7:00 PM & concluding at 1:00 PM on Sunday) at El Camino Pines Bible Camp, Frazier Park, CA; cost $120 per adult; $85 per child 3-17; 0-3 free; $395 Family Maximum (includes 5 meals and 2 nights lodging in the A-Framed cabins - shared by one or two other families)

Families of all shapes and sizes are invited to retreat together as the grow in God's story.  Lisa Lunge Larson said, "Love of story is what makes us human.  It is innate and it helps us to survive... while ritual and storytelling may now seem unnecessary for the survival of the body, they are necessary for the survival of the soul..."  Come learn more about this on retreat.

Topics include:
* God's Story 101
* How To Teach Our Children Bible Stories When We Feel Like We Don't Know Them Well Enough Ourselves
* Great Stories to Read & Tell Through the Ages (an opportunity to explore both Christian and non-Christian books that tell the great stories of life, of serving, of caring, of loving, of growing)
* How To Live Within The Stories of the Christian Year (and exploration of this thing called the Christian Calendar and how organizing our life in such a way can help us understand our story)
* Writing Our Stories (how to write down our family histories or our children's stories with and for them)

There will be large group gathers on retreat and also break-out studies for adults and children (and children will be led by the wonderful camp staff).  Also, each evening there will be a wine & cheese party for adults and a popcorn & juice party for the children.  There will also be time to hike, to sit by the fire, to take a nap, and to relax with family and friends.  We hope you can join us!
